With perfect weather and a terrific crowd, Canada Day was celebrated in style by the community at Ottawa House. With the Citizen's Band providing some pre-ceremony entertainment, the gathering enjoyed great weather, no bugs, free cake and cupcakes and generally a great time. Some of the tasty treats available for participants in the celebration. Prior to official welcomes and brief talks by the President of the Historic Society, the Mayor and a long time member of the Society the crowd sang along with the band in an enthustiastic rendition of Oh Canada as the flag was raised. Under almost perfect weather conditions the Citizen's Band provided musical accompaniament to the festivities. After the flag raising a few brief remarks welcomed the crowd and brought them up to date with the exciting changes that are taking place at the Ottawa House By-The-Sea Museum and with the Society's efforts to restore, renovate and save this grand old lady of the Minas shore. Society President Frank Hartman addresses the crowd of over 125 which gathered for the celebration of Canada's 141st birthday. Some of the large and enthusiastic crowd who gathered for the celebration. The formal ceremonies concluded the crowd lingered to enjoy the scenery, the camaraderie, the food and of course, the annual food auction which raises funds for the Society. Ken Snowdon does a stellar job in his role of "auctioneer" during a highly entertaining and successful food auction at the end of the afternoon's activities. Back |
