On 10 April the members of the Historic Society were pleasantly surprised by their MLA, Murray Scott, when he visited Parrsboro to present the Society with a cheque for $100,000 from the government in support of the restoration of the Ottawa House.

Murray has been a strong advocate and supporter for the restoration of the Ottawa House, and this latest concrete show of support is indicative of not only his personal, but the government's support for heritage projects in Nova Scotia.

It was appropriate that Society Vice President Colin Curleigh was able to bring to the gathering two architect drawings of work that will be done on the basement of the Ottawa House. The work being done on the foundation and basement is the first step in the long road to restoration of the Ottawa House which was initiated last year with the digging of the enormous drainage ditch behind the house.

Colin Curleigh displays the second of two architectural drawings outlining the planned work to be done on the basement of the Ottawa House as Phase Two of the restoration.

The Society has set as its' goal the restoration of the Ottawa House in order to preserve it for future generations and with the strong support of Murray Scott and the government is proceeding slowly and prudently to effect this restoration. This is just the beginning and much remains to be done however this critical first step, while not showing highly visible progress, will permit the more visible aspects of the restoration to begin.
