Ottawa House By-The-Sea Museum

The Parrsborough Shore Historical Society now runs a gift shop at the Ottawa House By-The-Sea Museum.  One room, leading directly onto the front porch, was renovated last year and a Gift Shop committee commenced operations.   The first year was very much a learning process and from the lessons learned the Gift Shop Policy was completely revamped to put in place the operating procedures for this year.

The Gift Shop is staffed on a purely volunteer basis by Society members and some of the participants.  The Gift Shop Committee is hoping to have the shop open at a minumum 10:00 am - 4:00 pm Thursday to Saturday and 2:00 - 4:00 pm Sunday.  As more participants agree to staff the space, the hours may be able to be expanded.

The purpose of the Gift Shop is to provide a source of additional revenue for the Society, to provide a marketting tool for the Society and locale artisans, and to involve members of the community.

Crafts, contributions or articles for sale are subject to approval by a committee consisting of the Gift Shop Manager and two members of the Board of Directors of the PSHS with preference being given to items with a local or historical nature and which meet two of the three purposes of the Gift Shop.

To this end there are so far this year 11 contributing artisans, crafters and authors and, as can be seen, there is room for more participants.  Items for sale to date include quiliting, knitting, crochet, handmade jewellery, books, decorative items and artwork.
