![]() The Partridge Island School Built originally as the powder magazine for the blockhouse fort for the War of 1812, it was converted to a school after the war and was used as such for many years. During the years the Ottawa House served as County Inn, the old schoolhouse was used as a museum by the proprietors of the Inn. Dedicated in 1968 as the oldest schoolhouse in Nova Scotia, it was bulldozed in the early 1970's to widen the road. Some the remaining stones are still used in the cairn marking the school's former location, next to Shannon's grave and holding up two culverts. (Photograph courtesy C Byers)
